While the singer has endorsed Jelly Roll for the position, rumors have been circulating that Kelly Clarkson could sign on (she won the first season of American Idol, which would make it a full circle moment).

Kelly Clarkson's interview with Sydney Sweeney wasn't a viewer favorite, and it was all because of the host herself.

Why Kelly Clarkson Won’t Join American Idol

Kelly shared thoughts on assuming the hosting role while attending the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards. "No. No. I can't do that, only because I promised my kids. I was like, 'I want to be there as much as I possibly can.’ And it would put me in L.A., and that's why I had to quit The Voice, which I love that team. And I miss them so much,” she explained.

The mother-of-two previously opened up about her decision to leave Los Angeles for New York, saying it was in the best interest of her children. They relocated with her full-time to L.A. after her marriage to Brandon Blackstock broke down. The family previously lived in Montana.

Kelly Clarkson Called A Hypocrite After Admitting To Weight Loss Drug Despite Previously Denying It

Kelly initially said her weight loss was only due to lifestyle changes, but now she's admitting a medication helped her shed the pounds.

“I’ll be real honest: I thought I was making a horrible decision,” Kelly said in October. “I knew I needed a fresh start and couldn’t be in LA.”

Kelly Would Rather Relocate To Montana

The singer has expressed a longing to return to Montana, where her ex still resides, but acknowledges that living there full-time isn't practical due to her commitments filming The Kelly Clarkson Show.

"I really wanted to be in Montana, but you can’t really do a show from there quite yet. So I was like, ‘The only other option would probably be New York,’” Kelly shared. “At this point, I’m 40 years old. Mama rented something nice!”

Although she did not specify if she plans to buy property in New York City, Kelly did emphasize her preference for upscale accommodations. “I was like, ‘I’m not living here unless it’s right by the park and really nice for the kids,’” she explained, highlighting the criteria for her current rental.

So, while Clarkson won’t be joining American Idol on a full-time basis, Katy Perry sparked rumors that the new judge could be Jelly Roll, as she think he’d be a great choice to fill her shoes.

"I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show," she told E! News. "I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything."

"So I love him. And to have any of these guys plus Jelly on the show would be amazing. I love you, Jelly!" Katy went on, though nothing has been confirmed about who will actually take over for her.
